Anyone ever talk to you when you wear it ? Fans of 2000ad or Marvel I mean......lol that didnt sound right at first. SD badge is really nice. Did you buy it or make it ? Or was it a giveaway at some point ?
The badge was bought from Termight Replicas, who have a website and sell Dredd badges (I have one of them, too) and belt buckles. Termight Replicas don't make the SD badges any more but they do occasionally pop up on eBay. They also used to make Johnny's gun and helmet!
The badge has been recognised by precisely four people. Three of them worked in Forbidden Planet and the fourth was a pal who collected 2000AD for twenty years.
I thought it might have been a few more than that but then I guess you wear it at speed ;)
I was pretty disappointed to hear Dan say EM didnt think much to the chances of 2000ad being immortalised in lead.
Would love to know what the sales numbers for 2000ad were from the start as imo those are the same guys who are buying Marvel figurines now. ie me and you for a start.
SHFF has a thread discussing other potential EM collections and 2000ad has been mentioned several times but pretty halfheartedly. You should join up just for a look see.
I was really impressed with the amount of characters produced by Foundry miniatures and cant see why EM couldnt do something similar. It would need to wait for the CMFC to be over mind you but I wont let the idea go easily.
I wasn't aware of the miniatures until you mentioned them and, while I think they can look a bit like fat dwarves at times, it's really cool to have guys like Ro-Jaws and Torso in any collection.
If the miniatures came painted I am sure I would gobble the whole lot up. I got quite excited seeing Torso and Evans and thinking about the storyline in SD with the mutie rebels. I cant remember it all that well and I want to read it again so am going into the garage roof space. I can pretty much guarantee the storage boxes wont be in any sort of order never mind the issue numbers so am going to have fun.
It is cool they made Ro-Jaws as he was always a bit of a marmite character. Imagine having all of the ABC warriors in CMFC style !! Imagine having to fight for the inclusion of the Gronk :P
I would fight for him.........and Burt and a Thrill Sucker........and Stogie. Sigh !!!
I read that story again not so long ago, Toon. It was called "Portrait of a Mutant" and was all about Johnny's dad, Nelson Bunker Kreelman, his anti-mutant crusade and the mutant revolution that it caused. Classic stuff with lovely Carlos Ezquerra art. It's all contained in volume two of the Strontium Dog Case Files. I do own all the original comics but I was lazy and read them in book format!
Starting to come back to me now, I seem to remember they were fighting to get to Upminster. Its still pretty hazy but its one of my favourite stories. I also remember the one with Adolf Shickelgruber.......probably not the right spelling. Wulf used to stick his smelly sock in his mouth.....Nice way to deal with Hitler.
The graphic novels went for about £100 delivered for 14 case files so I didnt bother. Probably have most of them in progs if I can get off my lazy backside today.
Just had a look at Ezquerra's wiki and its an awesome list of credits. I used to love Major Easy in "Battle" and didnt know it was his work.
If I had to choose a favourite 2000ad art droid he would be right up there.

ReplyDelete"Stogie"? You mean Carlos Sanchez Robo-Stogie? I've mentioned him a few times on the blog.
ReplyDeleteHis name was met with complete silence.
Why doesnt that surprise me :)

Yep, totally agree. Best 2000AD artist ever. No mean feat when you have Belardinelli, Bolland, Gibbons, McMahon, etc.
