Dredd 3

  1. I want him :)

Did you repaint him or was the shading detail already on there ? Dredd looks fantastic !

I love the pose, 2nd pic looks awesome and wondered if it was based on a pic from the comic ? It rings a bell but I cant place it.

Also would you mind if I linked your blog at my usual haunt ? I am sure there are some who would love the room and the work.

  2. The pose it not based on any comic reference, Toon. I could spend several days deciding on a pose, and usually it was time well spent. Some figures can be posed quite convincingly, like Dredd, Terrax or Doppelganger (I think), and others resist any efforts to make it look natural (one of my Captain Americas in particular are testament to that!). The only issue with the figure is the damn gun won't sit straight in his hand!

The Dredd figure was completely repainted except for the helmet and gun. The finish was one of my better paint jobs. Green often comes out quite well, for some reason.

Feel free to link this blog. I appreciate the compliment! The funny thing is, I did most of these fifteen years and never showed them to anyone, really. Haven't done one for ten years and now folk are seeing them!

P.S. I probably shouldn't tell you this but I used to have lots more. I threw out conversions of the Grey Gargoyle, Fin Fang Foom, Thanos, Warlock, etc. ... kind of regret that now.

  3. Its always the same when we chuck stuff out tho isnt it. 6 weeks/6 months/6 years later we regret it. Would have liked to see more as its inspirational stuff.

Has Grey Gargoyle had his own action fig at some point or was it a conversion ?

  4. Forgot to add that the shading on all your mods really makes the difference especially on Dredd.

My LCBH Dredd is the same....Lawgiver wants to point up/down or anywhere but stright. I just stuck some blu tac in there and it looks ok now.

  5. Grey Gargoyle was a 1990s ToyBiz figure and one of the Iron Man animated series figures.

  6. I skipped toys as well as as comics from the mid 80's (barring 2000ad) and just started buying toys again when my Son was old enough to play with Marvel Super Hero Squad. I think he has been indoctrinated now and can name 95% of the CMFC figures at age 5 :)

I hear a lot about the Toybiz line from other collectors, it sounds like it was a great line with lots of unusual characters. Kind of like CMFC really.

  7. It was a good line with loads of different characters. Unfortunately, the figures had very limited articulation. I had a devil of a time finding a passable pose for Terrax as he could only really move his arms and legs forwards and backwards. Took me ages to decide on a pose and he still looks like he's the Fonz (see left hand)! Fewer articulation points makes for fewer places to clay and fill, but also fewer possibilities for poses. You win some, you lose some...
